This piece is a sound-sculpture of a weather effect commonly called the beast from the east in the uk. It is based on a longer piece by me called frozen kaos. This was constructed by me using only copywrite free sources of sounds, musical(ish) pieces and natural sounds. All of these were assembled and processed using the free software package audacity™. Most samples have been filtered, pitched, and manipulated vastly to make the basic foundation. On that base all the rest of the sounds were layer (over 200 different layers -- manipulated, mixed down, rebuilt, remixed, manipulated). I mostly work be happenstance and never take notes -- often what comes about is as much by chance as by design.

In this sample you hear a recording from inside a well sound insulated room, directly under the roof of a house. Strong rain hints the roof and produces low frequency muted sounds. In the background you hear the constant noise of the rain, coming through the window. There are also a few raindrops hitting the glass of the window. The sample was recorded using the built-in stereo microphone of a zoom h4n recorder. It was slightly processed to remove unwanted low and high frequencies which were not related to the actual recording. I was messing around to create a lead synth for a song for my band, but nothing came out for the song. At leased i ended up with something that could sound great for a purely electronic style. Got a group of about 8 people to say "hey!" a few times. Layered all the takes, compressed, and added a touch of reverb. I've used this one a bunch in my own songs. Sometimes, to achieve a convincing gang vocal effect, when i don't have a gang, you can sing your line a few times, and then layer this "hey" under each syllable, and you can get a pseudo-gang vocal. Works in a pinch if your mix is dense enough. I'd love if you'd credit joshua scott or rjc studios if you use this sample, but don't sweat it if you don't. Good artists borrow, great artists steal.

Potable hoover (vacuum as known in the states) powered-on. Portable vacuum cleaner turned on. Short sample which can be looped. Two samples are included, the first is about 30cm away from the microphone and the second is a close-up to the microphone. I would advice using the end of the audio file to apply noise removal however have left this upload of the sound unedited so you can tweak this yourself to find what fits your project best. Noise removal may not be necessary at all depending on how you incorporate the sound. Also to be fair, how do you add noise removal to what is essentially glorified white noise?.

I've benefited from freesound in the past so i wanted to give something back. I created this audio sample of the black speech of mordor (a section of the ring poem), as part of a cinematic orchestral lord of the rings piece to add flavour to it and wondered if others might find a use for it in their own projects. The sample does have added reverb but to my ears this is not excessive. The phrase is:-. Ash nazg durbatulûk,ash nazg gimbatul,ash nazg thrakatulûkagh burzum-ishi krimpatul. This translates to:-. One ring to to rule them allone ring to find themone ring to bring them alland in the darkness bind them. No attribution required but it would be nice to know if anybody uses it. ;-).

A sci-fi sound i made by heavily processing an extremely fast drumloop in fl studio. The kick sample i used is royalty free, created by markus hakala, and obtained from howtomakeelectronicmusic. Com.

Wanted to emulate the sound of a stopping / slowing down turntable for a "pause" sound effect for a video game. Feel free to reverse the sound to get the matching "continue"-counterpart =). Made in fl studio using the "fruity scratcher" effect on a simple piano note sample.

No fuss 3 stage asr (analog shift register) patch. I sample from a quantizer but still its not exact pitch. The sound start with a short decay. I will gradually increase the decay time of the three sounds.

This is one of the original tubular bells used by mike oldfield, possibly for the 1999 tour. Note: this bell is only a dummy bell. It was stuffed with foam and fitted with a transducer to trigger a sample. I took the foam out and gave it a thwack! great fun but it sounds absolutely terrible in my opinion.

Sample was created by looping a "heavy metal" drum pattern with fills from a yamaha pss-480 keyboard. The drums were processed through various pedals and then looped on a boss dd-20 going into a boss me-30 multi-effect.

I use a voltage controlled lfo (vclfo) for this experiment. When i send a trigger to the lfo it resets and start over again. In this example i'm using a sinus wave output. I send the output, the sinus wave, to1 - a sample and hold (s/h) module2 - a quantizer3 - straight to vco. The s/h and the quantizer are triggered at the same time. Even an envelope a generated with the same trigger. All three sounds are controlled by this envelope. First out we have s/h (left)second straight to vco (right)third the quantized (center). As usual its fun to take a real close look at the wave!.

I made a saw wave and put some flanger and paulstretch effects to it on audacity and made this synth-like saw wave inspired by the saw wave sample from the ps1 startup sound. If you want to put a loop to this sound, it's 67109 to 84907 on openmpt. Do whatever you want with this (like sounds or music) and credit me if you want as pk superstar256 (in a fan project) or ismo-kun games (in a commercial project). Yes, you can use this in things that can make you money, just don't make money off of this sound of its entirety in unedited form. Something i threw together for a personal project i was working on. I couldn't find any high quality samples of a dragon so i decided to make my own. It's fun to patch up a kind of analog shift register (3 stages). Doepfer a-160 controls the stages. On a-160 i use /2, /4 and /8. I sample slewed noise. No quantizer.

Big room drums, tone: e speed: 128bpm length: 32 bars. Made in fl studio by mixing various samples and loops. Recorded in edison. Starts with one kick, then adds rides, then claps and a riser.

Klinking wine glasses 3 times. Recorded at home in 2013 in stereo with a matched pair of neumann km 184 on a zoom h4-recorder (sample rate was 96 khz, bitrate 24 bits) without adding any effects. I held the mics rather close to the glasses.

Timpano, 71 cm diameter, tuned approximately to g. Several hits, from very soft to very loud. Played with a yarn mallet, directly in the center of the drum head. Samples are a little 'cleaned up' (noise reduction, silence removed, etc. ) but otherwise unprocessed.
